Outstanding!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Someone has finally written the astounding truth from God's WORD concerning "Imagination". Much appreciation is given to author, Kerry Kirkwood. He has succinctly alerted everyone of the good purpose of imagination. Good- because everything that began with God was good, and imagination was freely and richly given to us by Almighty God, HIMSELF! The author tells us that imagination is so powerful until it allows us to receive beyond what we ask or think.

This book is a long awaited adrenaline boost to my spirit. I felt that the church had allowed the secular world to steal many of the good truths that God had prepared for us, but with obedient men of God such as, Kerry Kirkwood, more of the Bible's treasures are being revealed.

The author says that imagination puts us into spiritual reality, which is outside of the constraints and limitations of physical reality. WOW!!! Meditate that for awhile! More stacks of gold are awaiting you in this treasury that Kerry Kirkwood has gifted us with. Imagine The Creator of the universe being creative right on the inside of you. Spirituality, Creative Imagination, and Supernatural Vision

Kerry Kirkwood removes the mystery and confusion prevalent in the minds of many evangelicals today regarding the principle of "imagination" as a source of spiritual power in a Biblical context in his book "The Power of the Imagination."

Kirkwood skillfully weaves a pattern of inspiration, information, and challenge through a practical progression of step by step instructions on how to strengthen and develop Godly imagination in a balanced Biblical way. He puts an emphasis on using the power of magnification and the power of love to see things through the eyes of God. Kirkwood maintains that everything in scripture revolves around God's love as administered and imparted by the Holy Spirit.

Using an emphasis on a focus on potential, graphic impressions, imaginative communication, Kerry describes the excitement which follows when we see our plans become reality, once we have dared to believe. These experiences testify to the creative ability we have to change our circumstances. Terry also explores the concepts of dreams as a tool for revealing images of destiny, the creative imagination of childhood, and the precise gift of prophecy using real life experiences and Biblical examples to illustrate the scriptural principles of the power of the imagination as the result of an overshadowing of the Holy Spirit.

About the Author
Paula Aquilla loves the practice of Occupational Therapy and Osteopathy! She is a graduate of the University of Toronto and has practiced in a variety of clinical, home and community settings since 1986. Paula is also an osteopathic manual practitioner and specializes in paediatrics. She is the director of Aquilla Occupational Therapy; a family oriented practice that is full of fun and learning! Paula was the founder and was the director of Yes I Can! Nursery School, Yes I Can! Summer camps and the I Love My Baby programs in Toronto from 1990-1996. She was the founding director of Giant Steps, Toronto. Paula currently consults to the Muki Baum Treatment Centres in Toronto and she consults to many school in Toronto. She teaches throughout Canada, the United States, Australia, the UK, and India. Her practice encompasses all types of children and young adults and her specialty is sensory integration therapy. Paula has been a guest lecturer for the University of Toronto, McMaster University and Humber College. She is published in the field: she is a co-author of Building Bridges through Sensory Integration: Occupational Therapy for Children with Autism and other Developmental Disorders (1998) and is a contributor to Children, Youth and Adults with Asperger’s Syndrome. Paula has contributed to other magazines and special interest newsletters in Canada, the US and the UK. She is the technical editor for the SI Focus Magazine. Paula brings warmth and enthusiasm in her work with children and their families. Aquilla Occupational Therapy Services was established in 1990.

Ellen Yack M.Ed., B.Sc.OT, OT Reg.(Ont.) is an occupational therapist who possesses a unique combination of expertise in the areas of clinical work, consultation, education and public speaking. Ellen has practiced as an occupational therapist since 1979 and has a Masters Degree in Education. She is internationally recognized for her expertise in sensory processing and autism spectrum disorders. Ellen's other areas of expertise include developmental coordination disorder, global developmental delay, attention deficit disorders and learning disabilities. She is one of the co-authors of Building Bridges Through Sensory Integration: Occupational Therapy for Children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders which won a Teachers Choice Award for Best Special Education Classroom Resource. Ellen is also a contributor to the book Children, Youth and Adults with Asperger Syndrome.

Shirley Sutton (BSc, OT Reg(Ont)) is a private occupational therapist helping children and youth with long and short term developmental disabilities, and adults with developmental disabilities. She also offers in-services and workshops on a variety of topics related to play, behavior, gross and fine motor development, and sensory integration. Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, and is a member of the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists, The American Association of Occupational Therapists, and Autism Ontario.

As a music, movement and drama teacher for 25 years (1976-2001), Carol observed many out-of-sync preschoolers. To help them become more competent in their work and play, she began to study sensory processing and sensory integration (“SI”) theory. She learned to help identify her young students’ needs and to steer them into early intervention. In writings and workshops, she explains to parents, educators, and other early childhood professionals how sensory issues play out – and provides fun and functional techniques for addressing them at home and school. She is best-known for her book, The Out-of-Sync Child, which has sold more than 600,000 copies (September 2013).Over 400 sponsors have brought Carol to their communities for presentations, both in the United States and abroad ― including Australia, Canada, England, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, and Singapore. Not as helpful as I'd hoped

Not as helpful as I had expected. This was recommended from my daughter's therapist. I was hoping for some more activity ideas. It is a good book with useful information, but i was looking for something that had more specific direction, rather than so many explanations and history.

Great Resource for Families, Teachers, and Therapists

This is a book I wish I’d had when my daughter was first diagnosed with high-functioning autism and Sensory Processing Disorder. It contains good information for parents, teachers, therapists, and anyone else who spends time with children who have autism or sensory integration challenges.

Building Bridges begins by explaining sensory integration, sensory systems, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and occupational therapy in language that is easy to understand. The authors also provide anecdotes and examples to illustrate the information and make it even easier to comprehend.

The second part of the book is filled with very practical information to help caregivers provide children with interactions and assistance that will help with sensory integration in every setting. The chapter titles for Part 2 are:

Identifying Problems with Sensory Integration
Strategies for Challenging Behaviors
Ideas for Self-care skills
Adapting Home, School, and Childcare Settings
Activity Suggestions
Equipment and Resources
The information in these chapters is organized well, is easy to scan (lots of bullet points and white space on each page), and is useful and easy to apply. The authors have also provided links to PDF downloads of forms and activity cards to print so you don’t have to mess up your book trying to get to the forms!

This book is a great reference for me now, even after my daughter has spent years in occupational therapy. But if I had had it years ago, what a difference it would have made in empowering me to provide her with a better sensory diet at home and in knowing exactly what to do to manage inappropriate behaviors and to help her learn coping skills earlier! I highly recommend this book to parents whose children are just receiving diagnoses and to the people who help to care for and provide services for them.

A great resource for understanding lambda calculus

I found the first half of this book on lambda calculus to be really helpful. The explanations and problems (solutions provided) made it easy to follow. As the book progresses, the author slowly transforms lambda calculus notation into something resembling ML. At first I was less interested in the "introduction to functional programming" part than the "through lambda calculus" part, so I didn't get as much value from the later chapters initially. Later, when I was learning SML, the value of the latter chapters came through. However, even if your only goal is the same as mine was, to gain an understanding of lambda calculus, I still highly recommend this book. It's the best introduction I've found so far

Very easy to understand. Has the added bonus of solutions to all the questions. Unlike Hankins book you really can teach yourself Lambda Calculus with this. If you see a copy available grab it.

Hard to start, but hard to put down.

I've been trying to dive into functional programming, so I bought this book. The first chapter or so was a bit off in my opinion. The author should have covered why lambda calculus was invented and done a better job of giving a general overview. However, after looking up a few things online and getting a handle on it, this turned out to be a really amazing book. The author essentially teaches you how to build an entire programming language from first principles. It's quite a journey, actually. And in the process you actually understand how functional programming works. Knowing only beginner python I was able to follow along quite easily and if anything the author went into too much detail. So I found the pacing to be wonderful and because you understand everything that went on previously, the next part really isn't much of a leap. Many confusing functional programming peculiarities like partially applied functions, prefix notation, it's heavy use of recursion (and how it is applied) is a piece of cake. The book concludes with looking at two real programming languages, both of which are still extremely relevant today, and comparing it to the stuff we've been inventing with lambda calculus. The two example languages are Standard ML (which Haskell is largely derived from, for instance) and Common Lisp (which is the other major functional family of languages around today if you ignore prolog).

So even though this is an old book, there's not a whole lot about it that's dated. If anything, it's dated in a very good way: it doesn't use academic language or assume you know a lot of programming concepts (many of which hadn't even been invented, so maybe that's part of it) or anything like that. It's easy to follow along with and lambda calculus is actually kind of fun. It's such a trivially simple method of calculating, but with thought you can create some very high-level math and programming ideas and see how they play out.

By the way, no math knowledge is required to understand this book. Honestly, all you really need to know is the basic concept of addition and multiplication since the author will be implementing addition and multiplication functions. Other than that, there's no reason an absolute beginning to math or programming couldn't pick up this book. You might have to read the second chapter a second time after you get the hang of it.

I want to give it five stars, but it was hard getting going like I mentioned. However, you can easily overcome that by finding and introductory article online or something. Nothing's perfect, but I'm very glad I bought this book.

Poorly written with good content hidden

This is a book that covers very important topics in systems engineering. As such I would have thought an editor would be used when writing it. Instead it is a technical book that reads like it is written by a person who has never written before. The whole book seems to be more like a first pass at a book rather than a finished product. I had to get this book for a class at school, but if I had gotten a chance to look at it more closely I doubt I would have even bought it for the class.

geared to US government standards

Grady explains what it means to validate and verify a complex engineering system. While much of it can be used by project and system engineers anywhere in the world, be aware that some sections are specific to the United States. For example, there is a recap on the US military standards and the US Department of Defense formats for verification and documentation. Hence, you will see frequent references to specific MIL-STD documents.

Unsurprisingly, several of the examples are drawn from the US aerospace industry.

The book is not a light read. Reflecting the complexity of most realistic projects. There are many flowcharts, that greatly help in understanding the logic flow. The system verification is contained in several chapters dealing with system testing. There is an intricate methodology to try to test as many facets of the system as possible.

Great Content, Poor Production

The content material is very well organized and cogently written. The main issue is the poor print job. The book was obviously printed "just-in-time" for the purchase. The graphics are poorly reproduced, the tables are printed badly (blurred, poor contrast, undersized font size). There was no quality assurance done to ensure the text was legible. Considering the high cost of this book, CRC Press should have provided a better quality edition. I am disappointed and will not buy CRC books in the future.
